It was back to school for Team Talk Managing Director Jamie this week after he accepted an invite to talk to a group of youngsters about what it’s like to successfully get a start up business off the ground in the competitive world of Logistics.

Speaking to a large group of students currently studying business in years 9 to 11 at Penketh High School, Jamie talked about starting Today Team from scratch after a third knee injury meant his career as a professional rugby league player was over. Breaking his story down in to chapters, starting out as a ‘white van man’ delivering beds for local furniture stores through to now providing National and International time critical delivery services for blue chip clients, the students got a great real-life example of how an idea can develop through hard work and organic growth to a successful business.

This was followed by a Q & A which enabled the students to grill Jamie with questions around his biggest challenges, future plans of the company and key learnings from his 13-year journey.

Niki Madden, the subject lead for business at Penketh High School said –

“I connected with Jamie through LinkedIn about talking to my business students about how he started his business. Jamie spoke in front of 60 students about his journey from rugby player to successful business owner. Jamie’s presentation was set at the right level for a range of students 13-16 and included information about his youth and how he has battled the business world to have a successful logistics company.

Jamie spoke humbly about his experiences and engaged the students by being open and honest about successes and failures. Student feedback was positive and has definitely made young potential entrepreneurs think about the decisions they will make in their futures. A great inspiration from a down to earth and successful local business man. I would encourage anyone wanting to inspire young people to ask Jamie to present his Princes Trust experience through this informative talk”
